The developers of Glenorchy’s high-end Blanket Bay received a surprise gift on the day of the lodge’s 25th birthday this week.

Pauline and Tom Tusher were presented with a rare mayoral citation by Queenstown mayor Glyn Lewers for their "many years of work supporting the Glenorchy community" at a function held on the grounds of the lodge.

In his speech, Lewers congratulated them for bringing their vision for a world-class destination to reality.

"Presently the lodge is the biggest employer [with 62 staff] based here in Glenorchy, and this of course flows into the local shops and eateries as well as a significant contribution in taxes benefiting all.

"Beyond this there are tourism operators whose financial success is bolstered if not dependent on a few thousand high-net-worth guests Blanket Bay attracts each year."

The Tushers’ vision and dedication had "greatly impacted the growth and prosperity of Glenorchy".

"Tom and Pauline have invested in our town by providing housing for Blanket Bay staff, supporting local initiatives such as the Glenorchy walkway, sponsoring the annual Glenorchy Races since 1999.

"They have funded scholarships that have supported local students and helped them achieve their educational goals.

"Tom and Pauline, on behalf of the Glenorchy community it is an honour to present you with a mayoral citation in recognition of your exceptional service and dedication."
