Kevin Zhang (50), a real estate agent and business owner, was reported missing on Tuesday.
His white Toyota Starlet was discovered near the Karetai track, that morning.
This morning around 100 searchers, including many from the Chinese community and Search and Rescue, searched along the Otago Peninsula coastline.
Search co-ordinator, Senior Constable Lox Kellas, of Portobello, said searchers found no signs of Mr Zhang, or any clothing items.
"We have grave concerns for his welfare.''
Police would review the search on Monday.
