Former Otago captain Paul Grant has moved into the big time, and is playing for his third club inside a year.

Grant played 57 games for Otago and captained the side in 2012-13.

The side made the ITM Cup final in 2012 and won the Ranfurly Shield in 2013.

But an inability to crack the Highlanders, when many thought he deserved a call-up, led to Grant heading overseas at the end of last season.

The South Otago-bred loose forward, who has played the bulk of his rugby at No 8, initially left Otago to link with French club Montpellier.

He played out the season for the club, which made it into the playoffs before dipping out at the semifinal stage in the Top 14 French league.

After the season concluded, Grant signed with English championship club Nottingham, linking with former Otago halfback Sean Romans.

The championship is one level down from the top tier of the Premiership.

But his stint at Nottingham has been relatively brief as Grant has now been signed as a loan player by Premiership powerhouse Leicester.

Grant (27) signed for an undisclosed period and has already played for the side.

He scored a try for the Leicester Tigers side which lost to the Barbarians 59-26 this week.

Grant scored a try for the home team in the second half but the home side was overrun by a Barbarians side stacked with internationals, including Japanese and Highlanders halfback Fumiaki Tanaka.

It is unclear how long Grant will be at Leicester but English premiership sides look to boost the depth of their squad in November as they lose players to national squads.
