Three people were injured and ended up in Dunedin Hospital after the driver of the car they were in had a "coughing fit" and crashed.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said a 29-year-old man and two passengers were in Brighton Rd, near Brighton, when the crash happened about 9pm on Sunday.
"They’d just been out for a cruise in the area.
"The driver said that whilst he’s been driving around a corner, he’s had a coughing fit and before he’s known it, he’s collided with the left-hand side of the bank and the vehicle has ended up on its side."
All three were injured and taken to Dunedin Hospital by Hato Hone St John for assessment.
A police investigation into the crash was continuing, Snr Sgt Bond said.
• A 61-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after having a medical event and driving into a car sales yard in Andersons Bay Rd on Monday.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said the man was driving in Melbourne St, South Dunedin, when he had a medical event about 1.25pm.
"He drove through the give way sign at Andersons Bay Rd, before crashing into a car yard on the other side of the road."
Snr Sgt Bond said ambulance and Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews attended and resuscitated the man before taking him to Dunedin Hospital.
Police were continuing to investigate, he said.
