Hundreds of Dunedin children got into the spirit of Halloween last night as ghouls, ghosts and pyjama-clad youngsters inundated Tūhura Otago Museum.

Museum events officer Emily Kerr-Bell said the Halloween-themed Pyjamarama was a fabulous way for children to see the museum in a different light.

"It’s awesome for us to be able to use our spaces in a way that they wouldn’t be able to be used during the day," she said.

It was "such a highlight for us getting to see all the young ones getting excited about it".

The Halloween Pyjamarama was a sold-out event — 500 tickets had been bought for the evening.

Pyjamas and costumes were encouraged and museum staff had enjoyed the opportunity to dress up as well, Ms Kerr-Bell said.

There were "lots of costumes going on — Wednesday Adams has definitely been the most popular so far".

Arts and crafts, face paintings and a magic show were all on offer as well as trails through the museum’s gallery.
