Constable Amie Manning, of Mosgiel, said she wanted to challenge as many emergency service staff as possible to compete in the Brighton Surf to Scroggs Fun Run and Walk on Sunday.
Const Manning said five staff from the Mosgiel station were fronting for the 10km Brighton Surf Life Saving Club event.
She wanted staff from St John Ambulance and the Mosgiel Fire Station to join the throng.
''Get out there and support your community. We serve the Brighton community as well as the Mosgiel community, so get out there and support a good cause.''
Const Manning said she would run the 10km course and was aiming to beat any Mosgiel Fire Station staff entered, including Scott Lindsay, Andrew McAuley and Richard Yardley.
''My goal is to beat the fire boys. I'm cautiously optimistic,'' Const Manning said.
Club president Nevan Trotter said the event was raising funds to get some teenage club members to the New Zealand Surf Life Saving Championships in Gisborne in March next year and to help fit out the new clubrooms.
People can enter the event on the day and registrations open at 9.30am.
• The event starts at the club at 10.30am.
Runners and walkers ''climb'' 5km up Scroggs Hill Rd and then travel down McIntosh Rd to return to the club.
