The former Otago loose forward has won the Ranfurly Shield for two provinces.
Evans won the log o' wood with Otago last year and then last month won the shield again, this time for Hawkes Bay when the Magpies won it off Counties-Manukau in Pukekohe.
Evans joins the likes of former All Black prop Richard Loe to have tasted success twice in lifting the trophy for different teams.
It is rare honour. Some players go through their careers without having a single challenge, let alone a victory.
Evans said it was another huge thrill to take the shield for the Magpies.
''It was like the first time really. An awesome experience and one we worked really hard to get. We had trained really hard for it,'' Evans said.
That hard work also meant Evans picked up a nasty ankle injury when he was dropped in a lineout in the match.
It forced him to miss the game against Northland last weekend, which Hawkes Bay lost, but he should be right for the challenge of Otago on Sunday in Napier.
''I'm really looking forward to playing against some of my old mates from down there. We haven't had any texts coming yet but it is going to be a great game. I had a lot of good times down in Dunedin.
''I went down there for university and it was when my rugby started taking off. But I came to the end of my degree and I felt it was time to do something different and come home and play for Hawkes Bay.
''I miss the friends that I made through rugby down there but you get that wherever you go.''
Evans (23) is back living at home in the Bay, sampling Mum's cooking, and said the game on Sunday was one which was getting the Hawkes Bay fans excited.
''This is our first home game with the shield, so we hope a good crowd comes along. We hope the big crowd they got for the test up here last week rubs off on to this game.''
Hawkes Bay, like Otago last season, lost its first defence of the shield last year, and the side was keen not to repeat that this Sunday. He was expecting plenty of fire on Sunday from Otago.
Evans will be back in Dunedin later this year as he joins up with the Highlanders for a second season.
Evans said Super rugby was a massive step up from ITM Cup rugby in intensity and he felt he had a mixed season.
''Hopefully, I can keep the good things I learnt and then flush away all the bad things for next year. I learnt a lot throughout the year.''
