But for Otago Polytechnic architecture master’s student Omea Hall, it makes perfect sense.
The 22-year-old has designed a spa facility on Queenstown's Coronet Peak, set into the side of the mountain, right beside the top chairlift on the skifield.
She said the aim of the design was to create a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
"I was just thinking of creating something meaningful that had never really been done before in New Zealand.
"It’s probably more common in places like Europe where there’s more of an alpine apres-ski vibe.
"I thought it would be cool to bring something like that to New Zealand, especially somewhere like Queenstown where there’s so many tourists."
The design includes spas, a plunge pool, showers, epsom-salt bath, private spa and treatment rooms, sauna, horizontal aromatherapy showers, steam bath and a cafe.
The facility would also give people a reason to keep visiting the skifield throughout the summer, she said.
"It’s just a dream, but it would be so cool if something like this came about."
And the judges in the 2024 Designers Institute of New Zealand Best Design Awards agreed.
Miss Hall’s design is among those of 10 Otago Polytechnic designers who have been named finalists in this year’s awards.
Other finalists are Otago Polytechnic school of architecture students Nicolas Sharp (Terroir Unearthed), Georgia Pope (Ephemeral Vines), Eden Yon-Rose (The intermission), Oliver Mammitzsch (Street to Eat); and school of design students Justina King (The Little Herbal Handbook), Evie Noad (Living Campus seed library packaging), Ryan Dombrovski (H2YO spec advertisement), Otago Polytechnic Te Pūkenga Midwinter Carnival animation team (Dunedin Midwinter Carnival Animation), and Ella Smillie (Figment music video).
The award winners will be announced on October 11.
