Preparations for celebrations at Cardrona Valley’s Snow Farm are well under way.

Stage 1 of a five-year project — the construction of a new $750,000 base building, which began in December — will be opened with an official ceremony on August 25.

The building will serve as a hub for the farm and contain basic amenities such as rentals, ticketing, guest services, food and beverages and a staffroom.

In a release, general manager Sam Lee said the base building was a welcome addition to the farm.

"It’s fantastic for our guests, who can now look out the window and see the different experiences on offer."

The base will be opened by former prime minister Helen Clark, who also opened the Musterer’s Hut at the farm in 2022.

Mr Lee said he was looking forward to celebrating the opening with her.

"The opening ceremony allows us to take a moment to acknowledge the generous contributions and celebrate the hard work that has gone on behind the scenes to make this possible."

Donations from Otago Community Trust, Central Lakes Trust and private donors had made the development of the base building a reality.

As well as the construction of the base building, the carpark was recently expanded and 50 parking spaces added.

"We reaped the benefits of this immediately and during the July school holidays — there were times when the new carpark was completely full," Mr Lee said.

The farm hosted thousands of skiers over the school holiday period in what was described as a "record-breaking July".
