Natyaloka School of Indian Classical Dance students perform at the launch of the 2014 New Zealand International Film Festival in the Regent Theatre last night.

They are (from left): Thareni Luxman (7), Vibha Kumar (10), Anu Raj, Liya Thomas (13), Sarangi Sabu (16), Anmaria Thomas (17), Keerthana Raj (10), Ketaki Bagal (15), Anjali Raju (13), Maliza Allahakoon (10) and Thanuja Luxman (7).

The dancers performed excerpts from their dance recital Margam to celebrate the opening of the festival and the screening of Indian romantic comedy-drama The Lunchbox.

The International Film Festival would feature 84 international and domestic films, Dunedin manager Josh Thomas said at the launch last night.

''The timing is great, because we get them quite soon after Cannes, which is a bonus.''

The students will perform Margam on August 24 at the College of Education auditorium.

The film festival runs until August 17.
