A Pink Floyd tribute concert in a Dunedin cathedral promises to be a "sensory explosion" that will leave the audience comfortably numb.

The Rock Tenors — Justin Wilson, Greg MacLeod, James Adams, Luke Butson and Ben Hayward — are performing five shows called The Best of Pink Floyd at St Paul’s Cathedral from Thursday to Saturday.

Dunedin entertainer and producer Doug Kamo said while staying true to the music of the English rock band, the Rock Tenors wanted to make their concert unique.

"Pink Floyd is progressive rock, but there is something quite orchestral about all Pink Floyd music in a sense.

"We wanted to present it in a really unique way and we thought St Paul’s Cathedral could be a really good option for that."

The group had "thrown everything at it".

They would be playing Pink Floyd’s greatest hits, including Wish You Were Here and Learning to Fly.

The show runs for one hour and 45 minutes with no breaks. Three of the five scheduled shows are sold out.
