New Dunedin Kmart growing

A second storey takes shape on the western end of the building that will house Kmart in South Dunedin in the new year.

The building’s developer, Otago Land Group Ltd director Martin Dippie said construction crews had added another 1000sqm to the former Smiths City building being re-purposed for its future tenant.

Crews extended what would be the rear of the building over an old driveway in McBride St, and made the building longer at the Macandrew Rd end as well. The new "inwards goods area" at the McBride St end was two storeys and there were two large service lifts for moving inventory within, he said.

The building’s new retail footprint was 4000sqm, Mr Dippie said.
