The Knapdale School community has raised $1100 for Ronald McDonald House.

In the school holidays school pupil Paisley Milne became very ill and was flown to Christchurch Hospital.

Her parents Hamish and Rachel stayed at Ronald McDonald House.

In appreciation Mr Milne offered to shave off his beard to raise money for the charity and pupils and staff joined in with a Wacky Hair Day and sausage sizzle.

School principal Raewyn Ramage said the school community was delighted to get behind the event to show support for the family and Ronald McDonald House.

"It is never easy when any of our children get sick.

"It makes a big impact on their peers, parents and wider community.

"We are just so thankful that Paisley is OK and that the family had the support that they needed."

Photographs of the fundraiser have been sent in to The Ensign.
