A building incorporating a 140-year-old stable, believed to be the second-oldest stone building in Queenstown, and converted for guest accommodation, goes under the hammer in mid-February.
Bed and breakfast operators Gordon and Isobel McIntyre have owned in lived in ''The Stable'' at 17 Brisbane St since the 1980s.
The property's quotable value is about $990,000.
The stone and concrete Category 2 historic place was built in the 1870s and first used as a utility building, then a horse stable.
The central part of the plaster and schist house was built by the Government in the 1950s.
It was considered so well built by Queenstown architect Michael Wyatt he incorporated it into the major renovation and extension in 1989-90.
New Zealand Sotheby's International Realty sales associate Colleen Murfin, of Queenstown, said yesterday the location of the Stables close to the resort's centre, its potential and its heritage set it apart from similarly valued properties.
