The Davis Cup has returned to Invercargill for the first time in nearly two decades.
It is the first time the city has hosted a tie of "the world cup of tennis" since 2004.
A hardcourt has been installed in Invercargill’s ILT Stadium Southland for the tie, which started yesterday and finishes today.
Tennis New Zealand marketing manager Gareth Archer said it had been a long process getting the tournament to Invercargill, but staff and visitors were all impressed with how the stadium looked ahead of the games.
"It’s a big stadium," he said.
"We’re hoping that it will really help rejuvenate the tennis community, the tennis scene here.
"Ultimately, it’s about getting rackets in hands, so we want to get more kids more adults thinking about tennis, and if we can do that by things like this."
