Rahan Ali has been to the Highlands in the north of Scotland for his football experience and is continuing it in the lowlands of Dunedin.

The 16-year-old, born in New Zealand to Scottish parents, spent the best part of last year at the Inverness Caledonian Thistle club, where he played in the youth side.

But he has decided to come back and finish his schooling at Otago Boys' High School before he takes any further steps in his football career.

His father, Shokit Ali, said his son had enjoyed the experience of playing in a professional club, but for now it was time to be home and finish off his year 13 studies at school.

Rahan moved to Inverness, where his parents come from, in January last year, and lived with his grandparents in the city.

He played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle youth side and impressed coaches. If he had stayed, he was a prospect to sign apprentice forms.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle is a amalgamation between the Inverness club and the Caledonian club from the city of Inverness.

The club started out in the lower reaches of Scottish football but is now in the top division and finished fourth in the Scottish Premiership last year.

Rahan had played in the Southern League in 2012 as a 14-year-old and for now was playing for the Southern youth side, which started its campaign on Sunday with a 2-0 loss to Nelson.
