Kaikorai has proved to be far too strong beating Southern 40-23 at Bishopscourt this afternoon.
The Demons showed intent early when Michael Strydom banged over from a rolling maul within the first five minutes.
Magpies fullback Mackenzie Haugh slotted a penalty for his team’s first points of the board.
Two minutes later though, Demons winger Nico Bowering finished off a nice team try to push out to a 12-3 lead.
The Magpies stuck with Kaikorai for the first half, putting them under plenty of pressure and centre James Simpson-Te Pairi slipped through to trail 12-10.
Lucas Casey scored again for the home side, before replacement Southern flanker Konrad Toleafoa scored bang on halftime to be down 19-15.
Southern came out of the break strong, with Haugh slotting another penalty to come within one.
But from there on Kaikorai dominated in all aspects and Southern became its own enemy, with silly mistakes at crucial times.
Kaikorai’s set piece was a cut above, thumping Southern at scrum time, and ran in three easy tries to push out to a big 33-18 lead.
Haugh scored a late try for the visitors.
Green Island monstered Zingari Richmond to win 71-5 at home. Fullback Finn Hurley was all class, racking up 29 points for his side, including a hat trick.
Dunedin came back late to edge Taieri 21-18 and Harbour secured a 47-12 victory against Alhambra-Union.
