A Wellington father will face trial next year for allegedly assaulting his daughter during an argument over a mobile phone.
At a depositions hearing in Wellington District Court today, police prosecutor Sergeant Barney Soutar said the man, 42, was trying to grab his 13-year-old daughter's mobile phone when he twisted her arm until she dropped to her knees in pain.
"[She] asked her father to stop but he continued to twist," he said, causing strain to her lower back.
The victim's mother said the girl struggled to walk properly the following day and had been "too scared" to visit her father since the incident in early April.
The man was remanded on bail until January 13.
