Coca-Cola investigating mystery object

Coca-Cola is investigating after a Mosgiel mother was left horrified when she discovered a mysterious object at the bottom of her 4-year-old daughter’s can of Sprite.

A Coca-Cola spokesman yesterday said the company was "really sorry" about Bridgett Taylor’s experience.

"As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we promptly launched an investigation, which is currently in progress."

He said the quality and safety of its products were of the utmost importance.

"Our manufacturing facilities are highly automated and maintain a closed-off process to consistently ensure we meet our high quality standards.

"We have a strict quality assurance process which includes the live measurement and checking of every bottle or can. This is the first complaint we’ve had of this nature," he said.

Mrs Taylor earlier said she was frustrated at the company’s response after she was left in the dark about what the object was and if her daughter’s safety was at risk on Saturday.

"The manager told me the quality assurance team wasn’t available, so I had to spend the weekend anxious about whether my daughter had swallowed anything dangerous.

"She is fine now, but who is to say she didn’t ingest something that could bite back later on?"
