City Mission food appeal

Wakatipu restaurant owners are backing a national appeal to help the hungry and homeless.

The DineAid annual fundraiser was launched last week and the campaign involves customers at selected restaurants and cafes donating their spare change to help City Mission Foodbanks in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

The food banks distribute goods to 140 locations throughout the country.

Captain's Restaurant, Finz Seafood and Grill, Fishbone Bar and Grill, Pier 19 and the former Wai Waterfront Restaurant are the Queenstown eateries which are taking part in the DineAid project.

Saffron Restaurant in Arrowtown, Taste Cafe in Cromwell and Amigos in Wanaka, plus No 7 Balmac in Dunedin and Riverstone Kitchen in Oamaru, are the next nearest participating establishments.

DineAid is a charitable initiative launched by a small group of New Zealand restaurateurs in 2008 whose aim was to help those who go hungry.

The campaign, which runs through to New Year's Eve, involves participating restaurants inviting their guests to voluntarily add $2 to their final bill.

DineAid has raised and distributed $392,481 so far. The target for 2013 is $100,000.
