New information about an attack on a woman on a south Dunedin street is being investigated.

A police sketch of the man who attempted to abduct a 25-year-old woman in Dunedin was published in the Otago Daily Times on Saturday.

Sergeant Ed Baker said police had received ''a good response'' from the public.

''There has been a steady stream of information. People have been ringing in, nominating people they think might be the suspect and providing us with other information,'' he said.

''All that new information is now being investigated.''

The sketch was based on a description supplied by the victim, who said the man grabbed her and carried her about 10m into bushes at Bathgate Park as she was walking home at night from the Octagon on October 19.

The woman hoped someone would recognise the man from the sketch so he could be apprehended.

The attacker was last seen running across Bathgate Park towards Helena St and Macandrew Rd after the woman managed to get free.

She flagged down a taxi and called police once home.

Anyone with information about the incident or the man in the sketch should contact police on 471-4800 or the anonymous tip-off line Crimestoppers, 0800 555-111.
