Dr Devenish, who works in the obstetrics and gynaecology fields, was presented with the senior staff award for quality teaching by Otago Medical School acting dean Assoc Prof Jim Reid at a ceremony at Dunedin Hospital's Barnett lecture theatre on Wednesday.
The awards are given based on the votes of year four and five medical students.
''I'm thrilled and slightly overwhelmed,'' she said.
A women's and children's health specialist who teaches third year to post-graduate diploma students, Dr Devenish has been teaching for 30 years.
She was consistently rated as the ''top teacher'' by fifth year students who had completed their attachment in women's and children's health.
''These are core skills every medical graduate needs, whatever they end up doing,'' she said.
Clinical senior lecturer Dr Wendy Busby, who specialised in stroke medicine and older people's health, and cardiologist Assoc Prof Gerard Wilkins received commendations for their quality teaching.
