Christmas Day drink-driving leaves two facing charges

A Dunedin man has been charged with drink-driving after being observed swerving into oncoming traffic while three times over the legal limit on Christmas Day, police say.

Sergeant Matt Lee, of Dunedin, said members of the public complained about the driving of a vehicle in Factory Rd, Mosgiel, about 7.30pm on Sunday.

The 24-year-old driver was breath tested after police observed him swerving into oncoming traffic, and a breath-alcohol level of 815mcg was recorded, Sgt Lee said.

Members of the public also called police to report a driver asleep at the wheel of a running vehicle in Chapman St, Wakari, about 6am on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old man was breath tested and recorded a breath-alcohol reading of 512mcg, Sgt Lee said.

Both men have been charged with drink-driving.
