Three men in Queenstown who all decided to drive after having too many drinks are scheduled to appear in the Queenstown District Court on October 20.
Sergeant Keith Newell, of Queenstown, said two of the men returned readings of more than 1000mcg - two and a-half times the legal limit of 400mcg.
A 21-year-old Queenstown man was pulled over at a checkpoint on Frankton Rd at 12.30am and gave a reading of 1011mcg.
At 3am, also at a Frankton Rd checkpoint, police pulled over a Californian tourist who blew 621mcg.
An hour later, a 21-year-old Brazilian man, living in Queenstown, was pulled over by police on Shotover St and blew 1017mcg.
"They are pretty high [levels] and they should have known better," Sgt Newell said.
