Fields of fabric daffodils and 1000 little bears wearing orange sleeveless jackets have landed in Dunedin for distribution across the province.

Otago Daffodil Day co-ordinator Gwen Macready, of Dunedin, said the fabric flowers and the brown ''Lucy'' bears would be sent to 21 districts in Otago to raise funds at the Daffodil Day street appeal on August 30.

A bear would cost $10 and were a ''completely different'' colour and wearing different clothing to bears sold in previous years, she said.

Days before the annual street appeal, Turners and Growers in Christchurch would send her 90,000 daffodils to distribute across Otago for fundraising.

Mrs Macready said she had been in the co-ordinator role for six weeks.

''The money raised stays in Otago, which is great, and last year, Southland and Otago raised more than $300,000.''
