Five people were airlifted to Dunedin Hospital after a two-car crash on Cardrona Valley Rd this afternoon.
The 4.40pm crash happened about 7km from Wanaka on the Cardrona Valley Rd, between Mt Barker Rd and Cardrona.
"It looks like one car has crossed the line and run into another, but it's too early to determine a cause until the investigators have had a look at it,'' Senior Sergeant Allan Grindell, of Wanaka, said.
"There are some fairly serious injuries. The Fire Service guys did a great job cutting the patients out of the two cars,'' Snr Sgt Grindell said.
The road was re-opened at 7.45pm.
