Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull said it was a ''privilege and pleasure'' the Mayor of Joyville had come through a inter-dimensional portal to attend the 13th Dunedin chocolate carnival.
The Joyville Mayor told Mr Cull that Dunedin was the southernmost porthole in the world and he had to twist 24,000 times to complete the journey.
''I'm quite dizzy, Dave.''
The Joyville Mayor, dressed in purple and gold, asked the 100 people at Meridian mall to smile widely and reveal their teeth.
''Oh, you haven't got any,'' he remarked to Ezra Upston (5), of Dunedin.
''I've been visited by the tooth fairy,'' Ezra replied.
The Joyville Mayor presented Mr Cull with large chocolate key to unlock the portal into Joyville ''Welcome,'' Mr Cull said.
''And have a wonderful week.''
Cadbury events manager Kylie Ruwhiu-Karawana said organisers were happy with the attendance at the event and the children had engaged with the events at the opening of the week-long carnival, which included a chocolate fountain.
