An American woman sentenced to life in prison in Hong Kong for the death of her banker husband has lost her bid for a new trial.
Although the three-judge panel denied Nancy Kissel's request for a retrial, the court said the 44-year-old woman can take her case to the Court of Final Appeal.
Nancy Kissel, of Minnesota, was convicted in 2005 of giving her husband a milkshake laced with sedatives before fatally bashing the wealthy banker on the head with a metal ornament. The sensational trial became widely known as the "milkshake murder."
Kissel said she did it in self defence, but prosecutors argued she was a cold-blooded person who planned the attack in the couple's luxury apartment.
Defence attorney Simon Clarke said he was "very disappointed" with Monday's decision from the Court of Appeal. But he added he expected "a better hearing at the Court of Final Appeal."
