Edwards (20) was the favourite for the event and showed a clean pair of heels from the start.
Competitors had to start at the Otago Daily Times stand end of the stadium, run to the halfway line, after running around a flag.
They picked up a ball at halfway and then tore off around a flag placed near the sideline, to reach the finish under the posts at the other end.
Edwards was a clear winner. Southern back Eroni Sotutu was one of the next in the competition, where ability to pick the ball up off the deck was the deciding factor.
For his efforts, Edwards won $8000 worth of prizes.
