Another step has been taken towards sealing the deal on the Queenstown Lakes District Council’s purchase of Mt Iron and Little Mt Iron.
The council agreed to purchase nearly 100 hectares from the Cleugh family in December 2021 and intends to create a public reserve.
A council newsletter reported yesterday the council has now lodged a resource consent application for a safety fence along a section of Mt Iron that borders private property.
The council is also talking with the Department of Conservation about acquiring ownership of about 52 hectares of Doc scenic reserve land around the southeastern side of Mt Iron.
Councillors will consider the transfer of DOC land at a meeting on August 11.
