Venezuela's first secretary to New Zealand and Australia Amaranta Leon (middle) is welcomed to Dunedin by members of the city's Spanish speaking community Adelso Yanez (left) and Rogelio Guedea at the University of Otago last night.
She was invited to speak at a function celebrating the end of the first semester for staff and students of the university's Spanish programme.
Dr Yanez, a senior lecturer in Spanish at the university's department of languages and cultures, said it was a tradition to have an international member of the Spanish community address students.
Spanish speaking Dunedin residents were also invited to the function, which included cultural music and food.
