LOL cafe, restaurant and bar - the brainchild of Paasha Turkish Cafe owner Paul Martin - is moving into the mall space formerly occupied by Mojo cafe, but also making use of part of the atrium and kiosk space next door.
During the day, the atrium area would become a child-friendly play zone, with ottoman cubes, plastic ''dodo'' rocking horses and other activities to keep a much younger clientele amused while parents relaxed, Mr Martin said.
At night, when other stores closed, his new venture had permission to make use of the rest of the atrium space for functions on demand.
The cafe and restaurant would offer local, rather than Turkish, food, and the nearby Paasha cafe would remain open, he said.
Dunedin City Council city property manager Robert Clark said the business would be a ''bright and interesting'' new tenant for the council-owned mall.
Functions would need council approval for security reasons, but it would be the first time the atrium space was available for public use.
