Fire Emergency New Zealand investigators were notified of the fire at 11 Morrell St on July 7, at 4am.
Specialist fire investigator Murray Milne-Maresca said the fire was classified as suspicious and police were also investigating.
The home was being renovated and was not occupied, he said.
