They will visit the ''Hanoi Hilton'' prison and My Lai village, where American troops killed almost all the men, women and children in the village. They will also see the tunnels in Ho Chi Minh City where the Vietnamese built hospitals and an underground fortress during the Vietnam War, between 1963 and 1975. The pupils are studying Vietnamese history as one of their topics in year 12 history.
The five East Otago High School pupils and the 10 pupils from Taieri College and their teachers will go fishing and kayaking in Halong Bay, near Hanoi, and also cruise the Mekong River delta. There will be time for market visits and shopping. The pupils jointly raised $16,500 towards the cost of their trip.
