February air passenger totals lifted

International and domestic passenger numbers at Queenstown Airport increased in February, compared to February in 2012.

International passenger numbers rose 16.7%. This was attributed partly to the increased flight schedule of Virgin Australia.

Domestic passenger numbers grew 5.6% for the month compared to the corresponding period last year, with strong loadings across all airlines.

The total number of passengers increased 7.2% in February this year against February 2012, with the total number of passengers for the ''rolling 12 months'' increasing 18.3% over the previous corresponding period.

In the 12 months to February, 100,359 passengers were recorded at Queenstown Airport, compared to 93,586 for the 12 months to February 2012.

The airport also had 18 corporate jet landings last month, above the monthly average.
