If you were a betting type, your money would probably have to go on Gregan.
The lively halfback, who retired from international rugby in 2007, arrived in Queenstown on Thursday to play as an amateur in the tournament.
He told the Otago Daily Times he played off a six handicap. However, as his last round of golf was before Christmas, he was taking a ''wait and see'' approach before the seeding tournament at Millbrook Resort yesterday.
''I'd like to have had a little bit more practice before I came here ... but sometimes that's the best preparation.''
Gregan, an expert at ''niggle golf'', a style favoured by the Brumbies rugby team, where ''the worst thing you could do was play with etiquette'', described himself as ''a bit of a golfing tragic'' and was excited at the prospect of playing at The Hills with a professional this weekend.
''Anyone I get to play with is a great experience - you learn so much ... the golfers are just really great guys.
''I love the game. You've got your own handicap, so it's the one rare sport ... you might be able to play with a professional and compete with him, due to a handicap - you couldn't do that in any other sport.''
