Police are investigating a suspected arson after a caravan was destroyed in Oamaru yesterday morning.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews were called to the scene in an alleyway, next to the Iconix weighing systems building, in Thames Highway at 2am.

A Fenz spokesman said two Oamaru crews extinguished the fire

which extensively damaged the caravan.

The building had minor damage on the outside, but no internal damage.

The fire was being treated as suspicious. A fire investigator was at the scene yesterday and working alongside police, the spokesman said.

Sergeant Tony Woodbridge, of Oamaru, said police were investigating.

Sergeant Blair Wilkinson, of Oamaru, said there was nothing to indicate the burnt caravan was linked to a white Zephyr caravan stolen in Weston last week.
