Concerned he might be mistakenly paid out $102,772,800 in holiday pay by the Ministry of Education's troublesome Novopay payroll system, the Mt Aspiring College caretaker was at his bank early yesterday. But, within a few moments he discovered his holiday pay was all present and correct and there was no overpayment.
Mr Moffat's payslip had mistakenly shown his hourly rate to be $658,800 rather than the correct figure of $16.09.
That suggested he might be in line for a multimillion-dollar payout for the 26 days of leave he was taking.
A relieved Mr Moffat told the Otago Daily Times he was not disappointed that his holiday pay was hundreds of dollars rather than millions.
''It would have been a hassle.''
Mr Moffat said the prospect of a multimillion-dollar mistake had been ''quite funny'' for him.
But his thoughts were with others in the education system not getting their correct pay.
''It's a bit of a joke for me, but for others it is not so funny.''
Since the Novopay system began in August, Mr Moffat's fortnightly pay has been $110 short, but Aspiring College had made up the shortfall manually.
