Motorists to face delays on SH87

Drivers on State Highway 87 between Outram and Middlemarch will face delays of up to 40 minutes while road work is completed next month.

NZ Transport Agency journey manager Nicole Felts said agency crews would be working on the state highway from January 11-21, between 7am and 7pm, in a bid to reseal a section of the road before the 2022 school year started.

"The Downer highway maintenance team will be re-laying the chip seal surface on an 8km section of highway between Mahinerangi and Nichols Rock Rds.

"This is longer than we would usually seal in one continual sweep and means that road users could face up to 40-minute delays."

Traffic management and temporary speed restrictions would be in place.

Overnight, and after initial work had been carried out, temporary speeds would remain in place until sweeping and line marking had been completed.

The work was weather dependent, she said.
