Broadband services crashed again last night for hundreds of thousands of Telecom customers around New Zealand, just as the service was recovering from a major outage yesterday morning.
Telecom spokesman Andrew Pirie said last night the network's broadband system failed again at 9.45pm after repairs done in the morning to resolve an earlier outage had ''fallen over''.
Technicians were working to restore the service last night, he said.
Mr Pirie said broadband was cut to about two-thirds of the company's 400,000 broadband customers during both outages.
It was the second major failure in Telecom's broadband network in two weeks. About 25,000 mainly residential customers lost service on November 30 after a fibre optic cable failed following system upgrade work.
