Senior pupils of Amana Christian School have decided to spend their own time catching up on study time lost over the lockdown.
School holidays started on Saturday and will run until October 17.
Zane Butler (18) said they had lost about three weeks worth of valuable study with the lockdown.
The senior pupils had banded together and decided they could catch up by spending the first week of their holidays at school doing independent study.
The initiative was put forward by the pupils.
The extra time would help them get back into the swing of things and make sure they were on track, he said.
The pupils would study from 10am to 2pm.
Alo Solofuti (14) said it was difficult to study at home as there was no dedicated work environment free from distractions.
The pupils worked on their study independently and could focus on the subjects they felt they were behind in, he said.
Principal Roslyn King said she was "very proud" of her pupils.
The group were a "marvellous bunch" who had showed initiative by taking control of their learning.
The pupils learnt on the Accelerated Christian Education (Ace) system as opposed to NCEA.
The system encouraged independent learning, which she believed was part of what inspired them to spend their own time studying.
"They want to achieve and get good grades," she said.
She would not have wanted to go to school in the holidays when she was a school pupil and was proud her pupils had made the decision themselves, she said.
