Man charged with assault, throwing victim off yacht

A man was to appear in court today after another man was stabbed, assaulted and thrown over the side of a yacht in the Marlborough Sounds.

The victim was assaulted on Tuesday and spent the night in the bush before walking to nearby Lochmara Lodge in Lochmara Bay to get help.

He told police he had been assaulted and attacked with a knife and a wood saw, local media reported.

He was admitted to Wairau Hospital in Blenheim. His condition today was unknown.

Police spokeswoman Barbara Dunn said armed police yesterday searched for the alleged offender and arrested him about 8pm.

A 53-year-old man was to appear in Blenheim District Court today charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and threatening to kill.
