Two cousins have each been sentenced to 12 years in jail after shooting a rival gang member at point-blank range in Wairoa two years ago.
Black Power members Thomas Huata and James Huata last month admitted shooting a Mongrel Mob member on the forecourt of a local petrol station.
In sentencing today at the High Court at Napier, Justice David Collins told the pair their offending was a classic case of gang warfare, Newstalk ZB reported.
Justice Collins said the 22-year-old and the 24-year-old set out to avenge the shooting of a Black Power member in Wairoa a month earlier.
He said the victim survived only by chance, and members of the public could have been injured as the shooting took place in broad daylight in a public place.
