Gaming, comic, sci-fi and fantasy fans listen up: New Zealand's biggest pop culture expo is coming to Dunedin.
A budget version of the Armageddon Expo will come to the Edgar Centre next March for the first time.
Organiser Bill Geradts said it would be a pared-down version of the massive annual Auckland Armageddon outing, due to be held this year at Labour Weekend, but he was sure it would still attract a big crowd.
The Dunedin expo would have a $5 entry fee and, being days before the Christchurch expo, could attract more exhibitors to the South Island. The event would be similar to the one held in Christchurch, which attracted 9000 visitors the last two times it was held.
Stars from Dr Who, the Green Lantern, Babylon 5 and Game of Thrones will attend the Auckland event; the celebrity guests for Dunedin are due to be announced in November. So far, a ninja turtle voice who also worked on Ben 10 was signed up, Mr Geradts said.
Held in Auckland since 1995, Wellington since 2001 and Christchurch and Melbourne since 2007, the expo's Southern foray has Mr Geradts hoping it will be the start of a good thing.
"If the city embraces it as we expect it to, it could be the first step to bringing more to Dunedin."
