A Reefton man who allegedly threatened to blow up Parliament narrowly avoided being remanded in custody yesterday after breaking the conditions of his bail by phoning a parliamentary staff member.
Robert Frank Terry, 58, represented himself in the Greymouth District Court to contest the charge, but Justice of the Peace Danielle Smith told him she did not have jurisdiction to judge his case.
When she suggested Mr Terry be held in custody while issues were resolved, he said: "I shouldn't suffer because the police (and) the court staff can't do their jobs."
He was remanded on bail until a post-committal conference on September 26, with the conditions that he live at a specified address in Reefton and not communicate with any MPs or their staff.
