At a ceremony at Government House yesterday Dunedin television producer and businessman Sir Ian Taylor was knighted by Governor-General Dame Patsy Reddy.
Sir Ian said it was a privilege to be recognised but said "nobody calls me Sir."
"It takes some getting used to, but you are still the same person as you were before."
Family attended the ceremony, and he acknowledged the hard work of his wife Liz, Lady Grieve.
"She did all the hard work behind the scenes to make sure [the business] didn’t go broke, and raised two wonderful kids too."
"If I could have, I’d love to have everyone who was a part of the ARL family for the past 30 years."
Sir Ian wanted to recognise his anonymous nominators, saying he had helped to make nominations in the past.
"I want to take the opportunity to thank them because the work is enormous. Someone has gone to a great deal of work to make this happen."
