Several new categories were added to this year’s Dunedin Performing Arts Competitions Society tap dancing competition.
Convener Julie Larkin said new under-12 and over-12 prizes were added this year, as well as a jazz component.
The goal was to attract dancers from all around New Zealand, something they achieved as competitors from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Invercargill took to the stage.
"Kids who dance, shine, and that’s what it’s all about," she said.
A total of 87 dancers competed in the event at Mosgiel’s Coronation Hall, including the first dancer to take part in the newly created masters section.
"It’s been an amazing weekend."
The jazz supreme award was won by Chloe Woodhouse (14), while Lucia Morey (10) won the tap under-12 section.
The tap over-12 award was won by Evarna Toma (12).
