The Cran Dalgety-trained and Dexter Dunn-driven Texican has won 10 of his 20 starts and $212,000 in stakes this season. His wins include the $184,000 Sires' Stakes Final at Addington in November and the Southern Supremacy Stakes Final at Invercargill for owners Jim and Susan Wakefield.
Texican has won seven of his 12 starts at Addington. He won a Sires' Stakes heat there as a 2yr-old and a Breeders' Crown heat against two others at his last start on July 13.
Dunn has finished the season with a flourish by driving 15 winners at Addington this month, advancing his tally as the leading New Zealand reinsman for the season to 194. He reached another milestone by exceeding $2 million in stakes last Friday. It will be the fifth successive season that Dunn has topped the premiership.
Christen Me, winner of his three starts for Dalgety and Dunn this month, is engaged in race 6 tonight.
Dunn drove Niraadi and Rafa to win for his trainer father, Robert, last Friday and both rate highly tonight.
Phil Williamson, the ace trainer of trotters, could also end the season on a high note tonight. He has Duke Of The Moment, Here Comes Pat and Miss Pegasus in race 8 and Beyond Reason (r1).
Lewis H, trained by his son, Nathan , has also been based at the Oamaru stable.
Williamson has won 12 races with six individual trotters over the past two months, swelling his training tally to 40 for the season.
Here Comes Pat has won her last three; Miss Pegasus has won three; Duke Of The Moment two and Beyond Reason was a last-start winner at Addington.
