St Kilda Bowling Club celebrated Bastille Day in style yesterday by playing Petanque, with competitors getting into the French spirit by sporting berets, moustaches and dressing in the red, white and blue of the French tricolour flag.

Tournament organiser Barrie Kendall said the event was becoming a tradition, with "more and more people" getting dressed up each year. He said 72 competitors participated this year, and everyone "thoroughly" enjoyed the occasion.
