Michael Hill has come to the aid of Cromwell College - which needs to raise $100,000 for a computer hardware upgrade - by allowing a special event to be played at The Hills golf course next month.
The chance to play a round on The Hills is being offered to all interested Cromwell community members, parents, pupils and their friends, to raise money for the project.
The Hills course is played by invitation of a member only.
"Michael has generously allowed Cromwell College access to the course at a reduced fee, due to a member being a Cromwell College trustee," college board of trustees chairman David Beaumont said.
The total cost to upgrade Cromwell College's computer networks is $240,000 and the hardware will cost an extra $100,000.
Dr Beaumont said the Ministry of Education was originally going to help with funding, but then the college learned that all the money set aside had already been used in other parts of the country.
"That means we will have to launch a major fund-raising project."
The Central Lakes Trust has decided on a $1.5 million grant to pay for network upgrades at Central Otago schools, but the cost of hardware will have to be borne by the schools.
In the case of Cromwell College, trust chief executive Paul Allison said the trust could provide money "on a subsidy basis".
The Hills golf event will be held on October 19.
